"The gingham dog and the calico cat".....

1/22/2010

...a few times it has been mentioned that maybe I am a gingham dog! But I love our calico cat and would never eat her up. As long as she doesn't try to steal my greenie anyway. A girl's got to have her limits!

The Duel

Eugene Field

       T
HE gingham dog and the calico cat
           Side by side on the table sat;
'Twas half-past twelve, and (what do you think!)
Not one nor t'other had slept a wink!
The old Dutch clock and the Chinese plate
Appeared to know as sure as fate
There was going to be a terrible spat.
           (I wasn't there; I simply state
What was told to me by the Chinese plate!)

    The gingham dog went "bow-wow-wow!"
And the calico cat replied "mee-ow!"
The air was littered, an hour or so,
With bits of gingham and calico,
While the old Dutch clock in the chimney-place
Up with its hands before its face,
For it always dreaded a family row!

(Never mind: I'm only telling you
What the old Dutch clock declares is true!)

The Chinese plate looked very blue,
And wailed, "Oh, dear! what shall we do!"
But the gingham dog and calico cat
Wallowed this way and tumbled that,
    Employing every tooth and claw
In the awfullest way you ever saw-
And, oh! how the gingham and calico flew!

           (Don't fancy I exaggerate-
I got my news from the Chinese plate!)

Next morning where the two had sat
    They found no trace of the dog or cat;
And some folks think unto this day
That burglars stole that pair away!
But the truth about the cat and pup
Is this: they ate each other up!
Now what do you really think of that!

(The old Dutch clock it told me so,
And that is how I came to know.)

Springtime for the Calico Dog

1/21/2010

Chris & Jess take pictures for other humans - that's one of the ways they use their thumbs. One of the other dogs they have taken pictures of, when they're not taking photos of me (I have modeling experience you know), is Limbo. His human's name is Denny and he's a big, strong handsome guy!!  Errr, I mean Limbo is big and strong. Denny is nice too, for a two legger.

Here's a picture of Limbo chasing a ball. I just think he's so dreamy, just look at him run! Denny has a company that makes vitamins and healthy treats for animals, it's called Springtime.

Jess & Chris asked a good friend of theirs to help do some drawings for the website. Here are some of the ruff sketches that he started out with, I wonder which dog I'm supposed to be.

His name is Don Keller and he's a real good artist. He does graphics and design in Baltimore and these sketches link to his website. They have known Don since they all went to art school together in Pittsburgh. I wish I could draw.

First post ever for Dinah

1/16/2010

Jess & Chris have decided to take their experience with animals to the next level. They want to help all the people out there who worry about their companions while they are alone. We all know how hard it is to find good, reliable people to watch over the farm and all of us when they go away. Believe me, they have tons of experience taking care of cats, alpacas and dogs too, of course!  But even better, they know how to keep us happy and healthy. They are very observant and often know when we aren't feeling well, long before anything bad happens. I believe you will really like meeting them. This is going to be a great adventure and I bet it means I will get to make new friends. I hope I get some more car rides out of the deal!

Dinah, here. I live on a small farm with Jess & Chris and a bunch of cats, alpacas and Guineas. They take great care of me and my buddy Rozz.
